What it is

Overview

Sermorelin is a synthetic fragment of growth hormone-releasing hormone, comprising the shortest portion that retains activity. It prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone rather than supplying the hormone directly.

It was an approved pharmaceutical product used diagnostically to assess pituitary function and therapeutically in paediatric growth hormone deficiency, and was later withdrawn from the United States market. That withdrawal was commercial rather than the result of a safety finding, a distinction worth being precise about. It remains available through compounding pharmacies.

The evidence base

What the research examines

Pituitary function and growth hormone deficiency, with a clinical record from its period as an approved product.

As reported on the show

Reported protocols

Attributed to the person who described them. Amounts, timing and interactions as stated on air.

No protocol reported

Nobody has described a protocol for Sermorelin on the show. When someone does, it will appear here attributed to them.

Reported in the literature

Adverse effects

Injection-site reactions were the most commonly reported effect during its approved use, along with flushing and headache. Its market withdrawal was commercial, not the consequence of a safety signal.

As supplied

Presentation and storage

Supplied as a lyophilised powder for reconstitution, refrigerated, generally through compounding pharmacies.
